Senior Litigator
I enjoy the intellectual rigor, freedom and autonomy that comes with being a member of FJ&G de Saram’s Dispute Resolution division and the opportunities to work on diverse, high value commercial disputes (both in litigation and domestic and international arbitrations). I enjoy the mix of working independently and in synergy with others, where all are expected to take initiative and add value. Although, the learning curve is steep, the progressive outlook of the firm, coupled with its convivial atmosphere and the mentoring we receive from senior lawyers, makes working at FJ&G a rewarding experience.

Our culture

When you join our team, you’ll discover what it is that makes our firm a great place to work. Our culture is one of collaboration – we are curious, collegiate and welcome open and questioning minds – and of redefining excellence – we are constantly looking for ways to do better [for our clients], so innovativeness and independent dynamic thinking are encouraged and given room to grow. You will learn from and be supported by colleagues who will also become mentors. You will be challenged, you will learn to deal with high-pressure situations and you will NEVER be bored. While the hours in this profession can be long, we are mindful of the importance of maintaining a healthy balance between work and life outside the office.

Senior Associate
Being part of the corporate law division of FJ&G de Saram allows me to do challenging work in a fast paced environment whilst also offering the opportunity to pursue my interests and hobbies with several role models to look up to. The firm initiates a varied range of social activities ranging from annual Christmas cocktails, Avurudhu breakfasts, celebratory dinners and movie nights to offsite hiking, rooftop yoga and cycling to work – these opportunities to get to know our colleagues outside a purely professional context are great for teambuilding and collaboration.

Diversity, Inclusion and Flexibility

We understand that the more vibrant the fabric of our firm, the closer its representation of the diversity of our communities and our clients and the more fulfilling it is as a place to work. We see diversity as a strength – when people of diverse backgrounds, circumstances and identities work together, they bring different and valuable perspectives to the table. One of our greatest strengths is that we value and constantly work towards creating a culture that is inclusive not just in word but in spirit. We understand that not everyone works in the same way, and that, in order to thrive, different people may require different working arrangements, and so we embrace flexibility and offer agile working arrangements, where required. Recognising that high job satisfaction can only benefit both the individual and the firm, we ensure that each of our lawyers is supported to perform at their best. We support working parents via a creche that is run within the firm. Functioning since 2000, the crèche is staffed by a teacher and is fully equipped to keep young children of staff occupied and engaged in a safe environment on the firm’s premises.

Anisha Wijewardane
Manager – Legal
The flexibility offered by the firm (in terms of when I put in my working hours and the option to work from home) allows me the freedom to juggle my responsibilities effectively. This is a fine example of how an organisation can offer agile working solutions which are not simply “flexible” in theory, but actually work in practice.
