My time at FJ&G de Saram in the late 1980s taught me the importance of attention to detail, precision in response, and being economical with the use of my signature.

I cherish those times in the office located at Mudalige Building Fort, which had a real old-world charm. The office was arranged in open style with antique style desks one behind the other, almost like a school. Tea was served by the office peons at designated times, the lunch room was the centre of camaraderie.  It was actually like one big family.

The critical experiences I acquired as a Counsel at FJ&G de Saram help me to this day in negotiating optimal outcomes for my company with a focus on adequately insulating against potential litigious action. My patronage of the firm continues because of their client servicing culture which results in end-to-end, comprehensive yet practical legal service delivery by a business-friendly team of legal professionals.

Having decided on a career in corporate law during my internship, being selected to work at FJ&G de Saram was a dream come true. I had the good fortune to be trained by eminent lawyers such as Mr U L Kadurugamuwa and Mr Elmo Perera and can sincerely say that this important training is what paved the way for a successful career.

My years in the firm were the most exciting, ambitious yet enjoyable times of my life. It was a fulfilling and rewarding experience that nurtured my professional career and fuelled my confidence to be bold and creative in my work. Connections you make at the firm remain long after you have left the firm, and enrich and benefit your career.

What I found unique at FJG was the emphasis on integrity and ethics in all aspects of professional legal service whilst working towards the best outcomes for the clients.

The firm fosters a collegiate culture which fosters team work – partners are always approachable and asking questions is encouraged. New ideas, creativity and innovation are welcomed.
