Our dispute resolution practice, having commenced in 1995 (following the fusion of the legal profession in Sri Lanka by the elimination of the distinctive roles of proctors and advocates), continues to be the largest litigation practice in Sri Lanka where in-house professionals represent clients as both instructing attorneys and counsel in the respective dispute.

The lawyers in our dispute resolution practice provide advisory as well as advocacy services and appear before the entire spectrum of Sri Lankan courts and tribunals as well as before various other administrative and statutory bodies.

With an in-depth understanding of domestic law and international legal and commercial principles, the team is renowned for its practical and commercially cost-effective approach toward dispute resolution, the lawyers’ confidence-inspiring attitude and speedy and accurate advice on application of law and litigation strategy.

As the spread of Covid-19 affected the dispute resolution process in Sri Lanka causing delays and disappointment in clients, our dispute resolution team spearheaded the facilitation of virtual and hybrid arbitral hearings and the taking of online witness evidence in Court proceedings in order to prevent delays to the dispute resolution process. The team also marked a first in facilitating a hybrid international arbitration hearing seated in Sri Lanka and has also appeared for and continues to appear for several foreign clients in Court proceedings where the trials are conducted virtually due to travel restrictions faced by witnesses.
