In the late 1800’s, the Colombo Brokers’ Association operated the Colombo Stock Exchange and the firm acted as lawyers to the Colombo Brokers’ Association. Since then, our capital markets practice team has frequently been in the forefront of many capital market related developments in the country and a part of many significant transactions in the sphere.
Having advised on the setting up of the Colombo Stock Exchange, our capital markets practice team has also, from time to time, drafted and advised the Colombo Stock Exchange on its rules. The legal structure and the rules that enabled scripless trading of treasury bills and debt securities on the Colombo Stock Exchange were also prepared by the lawyers in our capital markets practice team. Most recently, the team advised the Colombo Stock Exchange on the implementation of the delivery versus payment securities settlement system.
