Praveeni specialises in the mergers and acquisitions practice area of the firm.
She has over 10 years’ of experience in advising a mix of international and local clients on the acquisition and divestment of shares over a variety of industries including banking, construction, finance leasing, garment manufacturing, hotels, information technology, insurance, tyre manufacturing, paint manufacturing, retail trade, tea plantations, telecommunications and power.
In addition to the mergers and acquisitions practice group, Praveeni advises clients on capital markets transactions and liquidations.
She obtained her Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Warwick, U.K. and has also passed her solicitors examinations before the College of Law in Moorgate, London,
Praveeni has advised clients and led teams in the mergers and acquisition practice of the firm on several high profile transactions include advising a leading mobile telecommunications service provider in Sri Lanka, a leading Sri Lankan hospitality group of companies, several leading manufacturers and exporters of garments on several share and asset acquisitions, a diversified holding company in healthcare, consumer and agi business on the acquisition of a confectionary manufacturing entity and a pharmaceuticals company, advising an Indian conglomerate on a transfer for shares in a subsidiary, advising a leading paint manufacturing on an acquisition and subsequent amalgamation, advising an International insurance company on the acquisition of an insurance company in Sri Lanka, advising a large Sri Lankan conglomerate on an amalgamation of subsidiary entities in the healthcare sector, etc.
Praveeni’s work in mergers and acquisitions also takes her overseas on transactions and she recently concluded a due diligence study and managed client management meetings in the Maldives in relation to a proposed acquisition of a cement distribution plant in the Maldives by a leading cement manufacturer in Sri Lanka. Praveeni also represented the legal arm of a recent business promotion mission to New Delhi – India which was organized by the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce in order to facilitate the establishment of business contacts with potential business partners and explore emerging opportunities for joint ventures between Sri Lanka and India.
In addition, Praveeni has significant experience and expertise in the capital markets practice area frequently advising listed clients of the firm on the issue of shares through initial public offerings, private placements and rights issues, de-listings of shares, issue of dividends, share swaps and restructuring of listed entities. She also advises clients seeking to dissolve entities in Sri Lanka including by way of shareholders’ voluntary winding up, creditor’s voluntary winding up and strike off actions.
